Sermon delivered at Neshoba Church on April 24, 2016

Our lives are short and fraught with uncertainty, and yet we step into them, day after day, sometimes with confidence and courage, and sometimes, not so much so. Saturday was National Take A Chance Day, which seems a good time to take a look at that daily act of stepping out there into the world, into life.

Featuring readings from:

Your Comfort Zone Is Killing You by Billy Anderson

We’re going to try this again, taking a look at what draws us from casual involvement to a deep and abiding commitment to our church and our faith.

Featured reading from The Growing Church: Keys to Congregational Vitality by Thom Belote, Ed.

This is the first Sunday of Women’s History month, and it is also Girl Scout Sunday. We will be discussing both, and we will be honoring Girl Scouts, including those of the Neshoba troop.

Featured reading from The Woman's Bible by Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

On this St. Patrick’s Day Sunday, we will consider the nature of blessings -- how we are blessed, and how we bless others as we traverse the journeys of our lives.

Featuring readings from To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings by John O'Donohue.

When bad things happen to our friends, family members, coworkers, or in the larger community, we want to step in and fix it, make it right, make all the bad go away.  But so often we are at a loss as to how to help.  What do we say, what do we do, how do we reach out in these situations?

I’ll be drawing on some of my Clinical Pastoral Education experiences doing chaplaincy work at a Level I trauma unit in Kalamazoo, MI, to address these issues.
